An industrial tribunal has awarded five Enemalta workers €70,000 in compensation for pay discrimination.
The five men, Glenn Spiteri, Terry Debono, Christopher Attard, Michael Woods and Peter Paul Calleja, were found to have been paid less than two other senior plant operators doing exactly the same work at the Marsa power station.
The compensation was equivalent to the amount they would have been paid were they receiving the same amount as the other senior plant operators.
Glen Spiteri was awarded €14,290.98 in compensation, Terry Debono €13,853.49, Christopher Attard €13,854.20, Michael Woods €13,396.90 and Peter Paul Calleja €14,974.68.
The Tribunal ordered Enemalta to pay the men within 50 days. It also ordered the corporation to ensure that the men are paid the same as other senior plant operators.
Lawyer Robert Abela represented the men.
