UHM halts industrial action, says number of allied health professional graduates to be given job

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin said in a statement issued this evening that negotiations with the government were concluded, bringing industrial action among Allied Health Professionals to a halt.

The negotiations will see a number of allied health professional graduates employed with the Department of Health to fill the void.

This newsroom interviewed a number of allied health professional graduates over the past few months, and only last week a number of podiatry graduates claimed that podology vacancies had arisen but they had not been asked by the government to fill in.

The new graduate interviews had been conducted in July but they claimed they heard nothing from the government ever since, except for Parliamentary Secretary’s Chris Fearne’s call to some graduates which led to nowhere.

The union also said that in January, the two sides will discuss other pertinent issues such as knee and hip replacement operations and the private public partnership for St Luke’s Hospital.
