Non-alcoholic cocktails were served during Christmas celebrations which were held at the Qawra LEAP Access Centre today, with the aim to promote their use as alternative drink during the festive season.

The centre sought to emphasise the importance of ensuring that people do not drink and drive, and risk causing accidents which can leave direct consequences on themselves and on others.

At the activity, Social Solidarity Minister Michael Farrugia said that the choice of those who choose not to drink alcoholic beverages should be respected, insisting that people should not pressure others to consume or abuse from alcohol.

He said that while socialising was an important aspect of life, one should act responsibly to ensure that there would be more opportunities to celebrate in the future.

Centre manager Martin Chetcuti, on his part, said that it was important for people to remember that every action could lead to consequences, whether positive or negative. Therefore, he added, it was important to keep in mind that alcohol should not be abused and that those who are driving should not drink.

The activity was attended by representatives of various authorities and entities, including representatives of the local councils of the Northern Region, police and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services.
