Book donation to G. F. Abela Junior College

Tuesday, 6 January 2015, 15:24 Last update: about 10 years ago

The National Book Council has just donated a substantial book donation comprised of French and Italian titles to the library of the G. F. Abela College. Present for the occasion were Dr Philip Caruana, vice-principal; Kevin J. Ellul, director of Library Services; Mark Poulton, librarian; Margaret Gilson, head of English Department and Melissa Galea and Joelyn Galea, assistant librarians. The NBC was represented by Mark Camilleri, executive chairman and Joe Debattista, secretary. The idea behind this donation is to enhance the library resources and provide more interesting books to students of Italian and French.

Among the donated books are books purchased from the Sicilian Publishers who participated in this year's National Book Festival and from the French Bookshop which participates in the same festival regularly. A number of the Italian books are works by Sicilian writers who were present during the said festival and among the donated French titles; one may find books by Pierre Assouline, also present during this year's edition of the festival as well as books by this year's Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, Patrick Modiano.

The NBC believes that foreign languages are especially important for the cultural and intellectual development of our country and this donation in particular will be most helpful to students of Italian and French in that it will aid their studies further. Moreover, all of the donated books will be accessible to all Junior College as well as University students.
