'We have published all that there was to publish regarding the Enemalta contracts' - Prime Minister

The contracts published thus far relating to Enemalta is more than has been done by past governments on similar contracts, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said in response to questions posed by this newsroom.

"This is more than has been done in the past when similar contracts were signed. In the past, absolutely nothing used to be published".

Asked why last week he chose to table in Parliament the exact same contract he published last December, he said "We published what we needed to publish in December and we didn't need to publish more than that. The Maltese government has never been as transparent with similar contracts as it has been now".

The Opposition has been asking for the publication of all contracts in this field for quite a while, and have been refusing to debate the recent finalisation of the Shanghai Electric contract in Parliament without all the relevant contracts being published.

To date the only contract published was that between the Maltese government and Shanghai Electric, where the Chinese company acquired a 33% stake in Enemalta.

No information has yet been made available regarding the contracts for the construction of the new power station, the power-purchase agreement, and others.
