Transport and Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi told parliament today that various meetings have been held and others are to follow with various experts to evaluate the situation regarding horses on our roads in a bid to avoid a repeat of the recent horse-related incidents.
“In principle,"Mr Mizzi said, "everyone agreed that something needs to be done, and the crucial point which emerged during the meetings is to educate".

He said that other meetings are to be held with technical experts soon, including veterinarians, Transport Malta representatives, the Police, and insurance representatives. Enthusiasts, he said, were also present during the last meeting.
Asked by the Opposition who is behind the issuing of permits for street horse-racing, Mr Mizzi said that during the meetings this issue was also raised. He said that all those present agreed that something should be done on this issue as well.
“Although it states in the law that in certain roads races cannot be held, in other roads they can be held,” he said.
