Hunters' federation FKNK boycotts independent media

Sunday, 25 January 2015, 09:15 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation, the country's main hunting lobby, has taken a highly questionable decision to apply an all-out boycott against The Malta Independent, The Times of Malta and MaltaToday.

Back in September, the three newspapers had joined forces and adopted a unified stance against the practice of spring hunting and in favour of the upcoming referendum, seeking to put an end to the ecologically unsustainable practice.

This newspaper had nevertheless, in the sole interest of plurality and fair debate, approached the FKNK earlier this week with a request to interview FKNK CEO Lino Farrugia in a forthcoming edition.

This newspaper was, however, met with the response that because of our editorial stance, as well as that of the other two media houses, "in your official campaign against spring hunting, the Council of the Federation for Hunting & Conservation - Malta (FKNK) has decided to decline from giving any comments/interviews to your houses in this regard".
