Sliema Local Council – take action!

Sunday, 25 January 2015, 09:00 Last update: about 10 years ago

I refer to the article entitled "Reports on illegalities to authorities 'falling on deaf ears' - Sliema Local Council" (TMIS, 18 January). I was flabbergasted, to say the least, by what the Sliema council declared in that article, especially due to the fact that while the council seems to be preoccupied with certain irregularities, it is completely ignoring the issue of illegal parking and the danger this is causing to pedestrians and residents of Tower Road and Sqaq it-Torri.

Notwithstanding my numerous complaints, as well as complaints by other residents and shop owners, to the Sliema council about illegal parking in Tower Road, the council has failed to take any action. This illegal parking makes Tower Road extremely dangerous especially in the morning since numerous vehicles are parked illegally and block the pavement of Tower Road leaving pedestrians no option but to step down of the pavement and walk on such a busy road. Do we need another accident/fatality for the council to act? I hope not. Furthermore, these vehicles are also obstructing the entrance to Sqaq it-Torri, causing serious inconvenience to residents and shop owners who are hardly able to access their properties; in fact, a person with mobility issues or with a pram is unable to access Sqaq it-Torri because of this obstruction.

This situation, while causing inconvenience, is extremely dangerous and worrisome since in the eventuality of an emergency there would be no access to the said lane! I cannot understand how the Sliema council is complaining about certain illegalities and then fails to act on others, is this a matter of two weights two measures? Sliema Local Council - Get Serious!
