Bank of Valletta has consolidated its support towards the conservation of Maltese heritage by extending its support to Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, the voluntary NGO that is very active in the field of heritage preservation.

FWA Chairman and CEO Mario Farrugia accompaniedby Bank of Valletta CEO Charles Borg toured the air-raid shelter and museum at Couvre Porte in Vittoriosa.

"The Malta at War Museum is a testament to the great ordeal which the brave people of Malta endured during the dark days of the Blitz (1940-43),"said Mario Farrugia.  "The museum has recently undergone a major upgrade and offers the visitor a snapshot of daily life during Malta's darkest period with over 10,000 clearly identified artifacts ranging from militaria to  money, clothing and hand-made items, the result of the material deprivation of the time."

"Today, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna looks after several historical buildings and sites in Malta spanning 7,000 years from Malta's pre-history to the 20th century," continued MrFarrugia. 'We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public of the open day at the newly restored Mistra Battery being held on Sunday 1st February."

"As the Maltese Bank that can trace its roots back for over two centuries, Bank of Valletta is proud to be associated with the FWA and to assist in creating more awareness about Malta's rich cultural heritage," said the BOV CEO. "Over the past decades, the Bank has invested significantly to support conservation exercises, because we strongly believe in our role as patrons of heritage" concluded Mr Borg

Further details about the Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, its sites and events can be found on the FWA website at www.wirtartna.org.
