Friday, 6 February 2015, 21:28 Last update: about 10 years ago

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Malta donated the design of a solar distillation unit to the Guatemala Operation of Doctors 2014 (GOOD 2014). These units, which will be constructed and installed in homes in Guatemala, use solar energy to provide families with around five litres of clean drinking water a day.

The design was used in a project funded by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) in which the University of Malta, Solar Desalination Technik and Water Services Corporation participated.

Members of GOOD 2014, the group which helps Fr Joseph Camilleri of San Juan Battista Hospital in Guatemala, will be going on the next mission in June.

Mr Natal Falzon, a paramedic leading the team of GOOD 2014, and Fr Joseph Camilleri met the University staff involved to convey their appreciation for this important donation which is bound to better the lives of a number of families in Guatemala.

Ing. Paul Refalo, Prof. Ing. Robert Ghirlando, Dr Ing. Stephen Abela and Dr Ing. John Betts (Dean) represented the Faculty of Engineering, University of Malta.
