Thursday, 26 February 2015, 16:15 Last update: about 10 years ago

An agreement was signed between the Parliamentary Secretariat for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing, the Xewkija Local Council and the Xewkija Prekursur Philharmonic Society in order that an active ageing centre would start operating in the main hall of the society building.

Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana explained that the mentioned centre is one of three which will start operating in Gozo. A specific programme for the mentioned centre will be prepared as done in other day centres, where Life Long Learning Sessions were launched. She also explained the work on such centres is part of the Government’s efforts to enhance services for the elderly on a national scale. She mentioned that this was done after the Parliamentary Secretariat announced its interest to collaborate with several Local Councils in providing community services for the elderly.

The Parliamentary Secretary also mentioned the Night Shelter project, a project being done via a Public Church Partnership. Justyne Caruana also visited the ongoing works at the site.
