Works on Castille Square revamp to begin next Monday; traffic flows will not be affected

Work on a €1.6 million upgrade of Castille Square in Valletta will begin next Monday, Transport Malta announced this evening.

The flow of traffic will not be affected as a result of the project, but due to the limited space that will ensue, vehicles will not be allowed to stop in order to drop or pick up passengers.

Following discussions with operators, tourist coaches will operate from the Mall in Floriana.

Transport Malta advised motorists to proceed with caution and to follow signage. Enforcement officers will also be on site.

The authority apologised for any inconvenience and appealed for the public's cooperation.

The project will see much of the square pedestrianised, with the existing roads leading to Valletta and to the Central Bank realigned and the roundabout removed. The Manwel Dimech statue, which is presently the focal point of the roundabout, is set to be relocated.
