Former Nationalist MP and the first mayor of Victoria, Victor Galea Pace, died at Mater Dei Hospital on Friday evening.
Mr Galea Pace was elected as mayor of Victoria in 1993, and was elected in two subsequent general elections held in 1996 and 1998.
He is survived by his wife Vivienne, who is a Sliema local councillor, and his two sons.
The couple celebrated 50 years together in February, and they spent it in Gozo, which Mr Galea Pace always described as home.
In a Facebook post, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil gave the sad news.
