Sunday, 8 March 2015, 15:08 Last update: about 10 years ago

8 March needs to be a day to strengthen the fight for equality, the Labour Youth Forum has said.

They warmly welcomed statistics showing that Malta has the smallest wage gap between men and women in the EU. "We believe that women should be paid equally to men and that no form of discrimination in this regard can be justified.

"Investment in women is an investment in 50% of the workforce". They spoke of the importance for women to receive the necessary support from government as well as other institutions through laws and initiatives.

"Around the world, millions of women still don't have access to information. We can never ease up on the fight for equality and social justice".

They spoke of a number of initiatives by government, promoting and urging women to enter the world of work. One such example given was free childcare.

"Equality is the key to progress".
