Earlier today the Operations Centre of the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) was informed that a diver was in distress off ‘Wied iż-Żurrieq’.

Upon receiving the call, the AFM dispatched an Alouette III helicopter and diverted a Search and Rescue (SAR) Launch, MELITA II to the area to assist the foreign national.

The crew of the AFM helicopter managed to locate and successfully winched the diver to a safe area where an awaiting ambulance transferred the patient to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical treatment.
