Tour leader's scam

Sunday, 15 March 2015, 08:19 Last update: about 10 years ago

Last summer my wife and I went for a holiday-tour with a leading local tour agency. During the pre-tour briefing we were asked to fork out €125 to cover the entrance fees we were to pay during our excursions.

Naturally, we had already paid these excursions.

The maverick tour leader made a very dishonest profit by charging every one of us for single entrance-fee whereas he actually paid for group fees. In each instance he overcharged us an average of €2.50, nine times. Considering that we were a group of 47, he pocketed about €1,050 illegitimately!

When we complained with the agency they asked us for tangible proof. The tour leader was cunning enough to have foreseen this and he always kept the tickets for himself.

I appeal the tour agencies to monitor the behaviour of their tour Leaders and urge prospective holidaymakers to be aware of these possible rip-offs.

Obviously we are doing our utmost to warn our friends to avoid the services of this agency.
