Alluring Vignettes exhibition by Alfie

Wednesday, 18 March 2015, 09:29 Last update: about 10 years ago

The paints featured in this exhibition are "figurative" portraits, images which speak the language of a particular message, an aesthetic message of ideal beauty, spoken through a spontaneous and unplanned gurgles of colourful brushwork, which are controlled through the attentive use of mixed media, such as aquarelle, ink and pencil colours.

Alfie's work also articulates an underlying orientation towards the graphical mode of painting and gravitates in the direction of illustration and video art. These two realms meet in a dynamic symbiosis, yielding an ornamental spectacle which characterises the pathos of the artist and his concern for what is pleasing to the eyes and the senses. They fold various sources of influence into each other, creating an expression of the boundless domain of art which integrates various fields such as drawing, painting and video in an organic and creative imagery, and conveying an interest for visual qualities that underscore the beauty of life and the yearning for qualities that may delight or appeal both the senses and the mind.

Alluring Vignettes will run until 26 March at Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo de la Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta.
