An improvised explosive device exploded in front of a metro station near Cairo University earlier today. 

Eight people were injured during the explosion and sent to nearby hospitals, Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghafar said. 

At least two of the injured are policemen, Abdel-Ghafar stated.

AFP reported that all the injuries were minor ones, quoting medical and security sources.
