Siggiewi a clear example of the change brought about by the Nationalist Party – Simon Busuttil

Monday, 30 March 2015, 17:06 Last update: about 10 years ago

PN Leader Simon Busuttil said today that Siggiewi is a clear example of the change brought about by PN-led local councils. Dr Busuttil was speaking during a visit to the locality, where he was accompanied by the Mayor Karol Aquilina, party candidates and PN spokesman on Local Councils David Agius.

Dr Busuttil visited a number of council-led projects, including the Civic Centre, where the PN plans to open up a night shelter for the elderly in the coming term. A Day Centre for the elderly was opened there three years ago. The building previously served as a Labour Party club.

Mayor Karol Aquilina also presented the PN leader with the council’s plans for a new €160,000 playground. The playground will be named for the late artist Maurice Tanti Burlò, better known as Nalizpelra.

Dr Busuttil praised the PN-led council on the long list of projects it completed over the years, including the Salib tal-Gholja project, 2.5 km of new pavements and 2 kilometres of new roads. He compared Siggiewi to Qormi, where a PL-led council only managed to build 200 metres of new pavements in the same space of time.

The PN Leader also praised the Siggiewi council’s financial situation, noting that it is one of only a few that has no debt. The neighbouring Zebbug local council has a debt of €1.3 million.
