20,937 referendum votes and 32,492 local council election votes uncollected by deadline

A total of 20,937 referendum votes have not been collected by yesterday's final deadline, equivalent to 6.2 per cent of all those eligible to vote.

The 12th district has the largest amount of uncollected votes at 3,433. The 12th district is made up of St Paul’s Bay, Mellieha, Naxxar, Burmarrad and Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

2,151 votes were not collected in the 10th district, which comprises of Gzira, Pembroke, St Julian’s and Sliema.

Voter apathy is also high in the 1st district, which includes Valletta, Floriana, Hamrun, parts of Marsa, Pieta and parts of Santa Venera. 2,012 were not collected in this district, followed closely by 1, 932 uncollected votes in the 9th district, which includes Gharghur, Msida, San Gwann, Swieqi and Ta’ Xbiex.

32, 492 (16.2 per cent) of local council elections votes not collected

Voter apathy is even higher for the local council elections, with 32,492 uncollected votes.

St Paul’s Bay, one of the most hotly contested localities, has the highest amount of uncollected votes at 9, 881, followed by St Julian’s at 4,994, Swieqi at 3,144 and Gzira with 2,586 uncollected votes.

Localities like Safi, Santa Lucija and Kirkop saw fewer than 100 people not bothering to collect their votes.
