Update (2) - Air Malta 'love flight' draws hearts in skies: pilot and cabin crew member get married

Wednesday, 15 April 2015, 08:35 Last update: about 11 years ago

Air Malta shared a little love in the skies on Tuesday.

Flightradar24.com, a live air traffic tracking website, caught an Air Malta plane drawing two hearts in the sky via its flight path over the Mediterranean, before it returned to the island.

After questions sent by this newsroom, Air Malta published a statement clarifying that the flight was chartered and paid for by the couple.

The website posted updates on the 'love flight' to its Twitter account, which drew the attention of users from around the world. Some suggested two Air Malta employees were getting married on the flight, leading to the romantic heart-shaped path, while some thought it was just a publicity stunt by the airline.

Air Malta later confirmed to the U.K.'s Sky News that a pilot and flight attendant had been married at the airport earlier in the day and were enjoying a post-nuptial flight.

The couple will get married in church next weekend.

Air Malta would like to congratulate Captain Charles Borg Giuliano and crew Julia Lynne Saliba for this extraordinary initiative and augurs them a happy married life together. They join around 25 other married couples who are Air Malta staff members.

The ceremony and flight were organised with the assistance of Malta International Airport and the Malta Air Traffic Services.
