A 32-year-old Malian was today handed a 13-month jail sentence suspended for two years after admitting to making use of a false Italian driving licence to drive in Malta.
Yusuf Traore also admitted to making a false declaration when he used the fake document, driving without a licence and being in possession of 0.38 grams of cannabis resin. The man, who is a failed asylum seeker who is currently residing in Mosta, was arrested on Sunday at around 5.30pm.
Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras handed down the suspended jail term and fined him €200. The Malian was also fined €50 for simple cannabis possession under the new drug law.
Inspector Melvyn Camilleri prosecuted. Lawyer Noel Bartolo appeared for Mr Traore.
