Watch: Spray can art comes to life

Monday, 27 April 2015, 10:02 Last update: about 10 years ago

As part of the Sliema Street Art festival held in Malta last year, an accomplished spray paint muralist, specialising in photorealistic work on a small and large scale, took to dilapidated buildings on our islands and gave them life again through this mural.

The muralist – Mark “Meataxe” Taylor – founded CLAP Meataxe Design and was inspired by the colourful artwork spanning the train lines he used to travel as a teenager. Mark took his love for spray can art and channelled it into a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from RMIT University and graduated in 1998.

The works were posted on CLAP- Meataxe Design’s Facebook page earlier this month.

As for the Sliema Street Art Festival, the organisers will this year be moving on to the capital city of Valletta and the event is expected to evolve into a Malta Street Art Festival. Between 24 and 26 July, Valletta will be turned into a street art mecca, with some of the biggest and best artists in the world attending.

The Malta trip

London Street Design UK Magazine and Add More Colors together ran a competition via Facebook where the winner received an expenses paid trip to paint at the Sliema Street Art Festival in Malta.

"I am so honoured to say that I won the competition with a lot of help from many of my friends, family, and fans out there across the world. I am so humbled by the support from both the Art industry and the bodybuilding industry," Mark said.
