St Margaret College art exhibition - Coming together through art

Monday, 27 April 2015, 09:55 Last update: about 10 years ago

On 17 April, the opening ceremony of the annual St Margaret College art exhibition was inaugurated at Zabbar Primary School B. Students and staff members from 11 different schools came together through art to exhibit their works collectively. The school participants included 10 state schools comprising of primary, middle and secondary schools, namely the primary schools of Cospicua, Kalkara, Vittoriosa, Senglea, Xghajra, Zabbar A, Zabbar B and the secondary schools of Cospicua (Middle School), Verdala and Zejtun together with one of the neighbouring church schools, De La Salle College.

This year the displayed artworks were inspired by the theme, Identity, reflecting the participants' creative understandings of social and personal identity issues. These issues were communicated visually through a range of techniques and media, such as drawing, painting, collage, photography and ceramics.

Throughout the upcoming weeks, workshops will be held, so that the SMC Art exhibition serves as an opportunity for students from different schools to work cooperatively, gaining inspiration both by the exhibits and also by each other's creative thinking. Nevertheless, the annual SMC art exhibition is not only aimed at providing an educational experience to students, but also to all those who visit it. Hence, the public is invited to attend and through observing the variety of artworks on display, further reflections and meanings about the concept of identity may arise.

The exhibition is being held at the Zabbar Primary School B, School Street, Zabbar and will remain open until Friday, 15 May between 9am and 12.30pm. Entrance is free.
