Magnitude-3.7 earthquake shakes buildings across Los Angeles

Associated Press Thursday, 30 April 2015, 16:52 Last update: about 10 years ago

A small earthquake has rattled a wide swath of greater Los Angeles, shaking buildings downtown.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-3.7 quake hit at 7:01 a.m. near Carson. The significant depth of 7 miles (11 kilometers) meant fewer people were likely to feel it.

Agency seismologists say the quake was near the Newport-Inglewood fault, but it was too small to determine exactly which fault caused it.

Los Angeles police say there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and seismologists say none should be expected for a quake of this size.

There were hundreds of reports on the Geological Survey's website of people feeling the quake.
