The film "By the Sea", featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie that was shot entirely in Gozo, will be released in cinemas in November.

Written and produced by Jolie, By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in the 1970s, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

Gozo’s unique landscapes play home to the much anticipated romantic drama. It was the beautiful greenery of Gozo that captivated Jolie and in turn, lead to the decision to film the entirety of the movie in the stunning valley of Mgarr ix-Xini.

Minister Zammit Lewis responsible for Tourism and Film said that the film industry in Malta keeps gaining momentum and becoming even more dynamic. By The Sea has given Gozo a great deal of international media exposure and this augurs well for the film and tourism industry on the island.

Film Commissioner Engelbert Grech commented that hosting big names such as Brad and Angelina, both being good Ambassadors for Malta and Gozo, will further boost Malta’s reputation as a filming location. Jolie spoke highly of her time in Gozo, saying ‘It has been such a fulfilling experience to shoot By The Sea in Malta, and I am honoured to have spent time on this beautiful island learning about its rich history and fascinating culture’.

The film is set for US release on 13 November.
