Kochblume: the latest innovation in the kitchen

Monday, 11 May 2015, 15:41 Last update: about 10 years ago

Everyone knows that one of the biggest headaches whilst cooking is the mess that a lot of times results when one forgets the lid on a casserole or whatever cooking receptacle you are using. Whilst not really a big deal, the after-cooking cleaning of the hob is certainly not welcome.

This is where Kochblume comes in handy. What is Kochblume and what does it really do?

Kochblume is a silicone diaphragm that in most cases replaces a conventional lid. Since its introduction in the local market Kochblume has most certainly taken local kitchens by storm.

Designed by Cookline Gmbh of Germany the Kochblume concept is very simple and the lid itself is very easy to use.

Whilst cooking - especially anything that creates froth like Pasta, Rice, boiling Potatoes or Milk,  you simply put Kochblume on the utensil that is being used, be it a deep pot, casserole or shallow pan, this will prevent spillage that would normally result when one uses a conventional lid.

This is not the only function of this product; one can use Kochblume to steam vegetables; cover a casserole of boiling water or even broth if you want with Kochblume and place the vegetables on top and cover these with a conventional lid. Steaming will take just a few minutes.

Kochblume can also be used as a splatter guard.  Place on a pan or casserole where you normally have a lot of splatter thus preventing a mess.

One can also use Kochblume in a microwave oven by covering any recipient whilst cooking or heating.

The same can be done in a conventional Oven. Kochblume can be used up to a temperature of 230ºC.

Another interesting aspect of Kochblume is that it can be used to extract most of the fat when cooking a chicken broth. Fats when boiling will be captured in the Kochblume saving you the process of leaving the broth to cool off and skimming off the fat. Simply put Kochblume on the casserole - it is important that Kochblume is almost touching the surface of the broth - and cook normally. All fats will be deposited on the Kochblume at the end of the cooking process. One can also skim milk using the same process.

Kochblume can also be used as a trivet (under pot) when one needs to place a very hot utensil on the kitchen top.

Last but not least Kochblume is perfectly safe in a dishwasher.
