RUSSIA-UNITED STATES

MOSCOW — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will meet in Sochi Tuesday with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, for talks on ongoing unrest in Ukraine, Russian news agencies are reporting. There was no immediate confirmation from the State Department on the trip to Russia, although Kerry has made it clear for several months he'd like to go.

BRITAIN-NEW GOVERNMENT

LONDON — Prime Minister David Cameron may have won an election and kicked out his coalition partners, but infighting in his Conservatives and their slim majority in Parliament will present headaches for him on the core issues Britain faces, from Scotland to an EU referendum. .

EUROPE-SEPHARDIC JEWS

MADRID — For Alfonso Paredes Henriquez, it was the opportunity not only of a lifetime — but a half-millennium: The Panamanian real estate developer, a descendant of Sephardic Jews kicked out of Spain five centuries ago, was elated when the country announced it would atone for the Inquisition by granting citizenship to people who can prove lineage from exiled Jews. Then came a long wait, as Spain's Sephardic Jew citizenship law took two years to wind its way through Parliament.

POLAND-PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

WARSAW, Poland — It's being called the biggest shock in Polish politics in years: President Bronislaw Komorowski, a communist-era dissident who has longed polled as one of the nation's most trusted leaders, apparently lost the first round of the presidential election to a previously unknown 42-year-old member of the European Parliament. It is also a sign that parliamentary elections this fall could be unpredictable.

SWEDEN-ASSANGE

STOCKHOLM — Sweden's highest court has rejected WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's appeal of a pre-trial detention order in a nearly five-year-old investigation of alleged sex crimes.
