Former Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed he is a virgin and plans to abstain from sex until he marries his girlfriend Sara Madeira.

The Brazilian defender posted pictures on Instagram on Friday, showing himself being baptized in a team-mate's swimming pool.

Luiz, who plays for Paris St Germain, has spoken previously about his strong religious belief.

Luiz has been in a relationship with girlfriend Sara Madeira since they were teenagers.

The fiercely religious footballer is proud of his his Christian beliefs and has links with the Atletas de Cristo (Athletes of Christ) - a non-profit organisation that is made up of sportsmen and which was started in Brazil in 1984.

The movement counts Kaka - another professional footballer to remain a virgin until marriage - among its many devotees.
