If anyone is wondering what the heavy gun fire in Pembroke is all about, it is Armed Forces of Malta anti-aircraft personnel who are brushing up on their anti-aircraft gun skills using Zpus.

The training is currently being held at the Pembroke shooting range.

A number of residents called this newsroom complaining of heavy sounds of gunfire in the locality. The training exercise jolted many unsuspecting residents. The locality is surrounded by a number of hotels and is frequented by tourists and locals.

An AFM spokesman said that it is normal-run-of–the mill for such training to take place which is aimed at helping maintain our capabilities.

Zpus are based on the Soviet 14.5mm KPV heavy machine gun. It entered the service with the former Soviet Union in 1949 and is used by over 50 countries worldwide.
