Watch: Valletta Green Festival - Pjazza San Gorg transforms into floral carpet

Friday, 29 May 2015, 13:28 Last update: about 10 years ago

Pjazza San Gorg has been turned into a huge floral carpet of some 80,000 plants. The Valletta Green Festival, which is held every year in May, will be held until Sunday 31.

The floral carpet is created from seasonal flowers, packed tightly together, resulting in a colourful mixture of whites, pinks, purples, yellows and red.

The aim of the infiorata is to encourage residents to start developing green areas in their own towns and villages.

The tradition of the infiorata, or a carpet of flowers, goes back to the 12th Century Italy, and originates from the throwing of flower petals during religious processions.
