ISLAMIC STATE-RECRUITMENT MACHINE

PARIS — After a selection of tunes, the DJ with an American accent offers "a glimpse at our main headlines." The newscast's tone sounds much like National Public Radio in the United States, but this is Al-Bayan, the Islamic State radio targeting European recruits — a sign of how sophisticated the hardcore Islamic propaganda machine has become in just the past three years.

EUROPE-MIGRANTS

BRUSSELS — Influential European Union nations France and Germany are expressing opposition to new EU proposals to help Italy and Greece cope with a massive influx of migrants crossing the Mediterranean.

UN-CLIMATE-TALKS

BONN, Germany — Six European oil and gas companies have called for a global price on carbon as a way to curb climate-warming emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. The appeal by the chief executives of Royal Dutch Shell, BP, Eni, Total, Statoil and the BG Group come as U.N. climate talks resume in Bonn.

GREECE-BAILOUT

ATHENS, Greece — As Greece and its creditors struggle to reach a deal that would get the country more rescue money, Athens is looking at ways that might buy it more time. One would be asking the IMF to bundle together all its repayments due this month, meaning it would no longer face a repayment on Friday.

KERRY-BIKE CRASH

GENEVA — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry plans to fly to Boston after staying overnight in a Swiss hospital to receive treatment for a broken leg incurred in a bicycle crash. It is unclear how long he will be grounded once he returns to the U.S. Kerry fractured his right femur when he struck a curb with his bicycle and fell on a regular Tour de France route about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Geneva.

ITALY-REGIONAL ELECTIONS

MILAN — Italian Premier Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party has claimed victory in five of seven regions that voted for new leaders, but the real winner was the anti-Europe and once-regional Northern League that showed strong gains nationally.
