Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg this morning announced that that around €3 million were being invested towards a training programme for 15. He was addressing a conference to mark the ESF 4.175 project Capacity Building for Medical Physics Services in Malta.

Dr. Borg said this was a project aimed at providing a Masters Degree in Medical Physics and it was a combination of theory and practice thanks to a two-year clinical placement being offered abroad to these medical students.

This has been the first time that medical physicist trainees – a fledgling profession very essential for the proper running of radiotherapy, diagnostic imaging and nuclear services in Malta – would be receiving training, said Ian Borg, and it was something this government was intent to keep on sustaining and pursuing.

Dr Borg congratulated all students and said that this has been a project that has sought to maintain the required European Standards and he was convinced that this would be translated into a high quality of health care services to all deserving patients.
