The black Hungarian student who was involved in an incident at the Valletta bus terminus last week has filed a complaint arguing that the woman who turned herself in to the police should be charged in court.

The criminal complaint addressed to the Police Commissioner was filed by lawyer Roberto Montalto on behalf of Jack Daboma this morning. It read that the police should charge the woman for knowingly and maliciously making false accusations against him, inciting racial hatred and causing him slight injuries.

The incident took place on 1 July, 2015 on the day when the tallinja cards were launched. The incident was captured on camera since at a TVM journalist and cameraman were present at the time of the incident. This newsroom also released exclusive police cam footage of the man's arrest.

In his complaint, Mr Daboma said that the identity of the woman who turned herself in a few days after the incident and who filed a pre-emptive police report against him remains unknown to him.

According to Mr Daboma, the woman spat at him and slapped him across the face. She then told him to go back to his country. This happened after Mr Daboma attempted to organise a queue outside the Malta Public Transport top-up card service kiosk. He claimed that people had been standing in the scorching sun for two hours in the same spot to top up their cards.

But his ‘aggressor’ had a different story to tell and reportedly said that when Mr Daboma took it upon himself to get commuters to form a proper line, she sustained light injuries as a result of Mr Daboma’s decision to organise the queue after she was slammed against the railings. She also claimed that Mr Daboma passed a remark that “these things only happen in Malta”. The district policeman on duty called for back-up and three RIU officers arrived at the scene. The controversial arrest was captured on camera however the officers are claiming that they acted on what they found after some people present claimed that Mr Daboma instigated the incident.

The incident also made it to Hungarian news portals.
