Michelle Muscat and Special Olympics team arrive in Los Angeles for World Games

Mrs Michelle Muscat, spouse of the Prime Minister has been invited as a guest of honour by Special Olympics International to attend the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, United States.

Mrs Muscat joined the Special Olympics Malta team during their final preparations in Los Angeles, prior to the opening of the World Games.  Mrs Muscat congratulated the Maltese athletes for their skill and determination to participate in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games. Mrs Muscat said ‘in the coming nine days, you will demonstrate your skills and abilities acquired through intense training and support backed-up by a committed staff and volunteers.’

Anna Calleja, head of Special Olympics Malta, thanked personally Mrs Michelle Muscat and her foundation, The Marigold Foundation, for the unprecedented commitment to Maltese athletes and for making possible their participation in the Special Olympics World Games by providing funds, awareness and support.

Michelle Muscat reminded the athletes of the special olympics oath ‘Let me win! But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt’.

Nearly 7,000 Special Olympics athletes from 177 countries are coming together to participate in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games.

The World Games bring together adults and children with intellectual disabilities to compete on one of the world’s greatest athletic stages.  Special Olympics Malta athletes will compete in the following sports: athletics, aquatics, bocce, bowling, artistic gymnastics, and table tennis.

The Games will officially commence with the opening ceremony at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on 25th July.
