St Vincent de Paul not allowing residents to feed stray cats, relatives say this was therapeutic

Animal Guardians Malta is very concerned about the urgent situation of the well-being of the stray cats and kittens at St Vincent De Paul Home in Luqa.

Representatives of the association have held a meeting with the administration a couple of months ago but although cat shelters and feeding stations were proposed, nothing has been done yet.

Residents and staff are not being permitted to feed dry food, to the cats and kittens, or to provide them with water in this extremely hot weather.

A number of residents and their families have contacted the association on the matter, telling them that feeding of cats and contact with them was serving as therapy to the their relatives.

"Surely this is animal cruelty at its' worst ! And also causing medical repercussions upon residents who are depressed at being banned from feeding their loved ones,” the association said in a statement.

“We appeal to Parliamentary Secretary Honor. Roderick Galdes, Animal Rights Speaker of the Opposition Honor. Mario Galea, Honor. Justyne Caruana and Director for Animal Welfare Department to urgently resolve this matter,” it said.
