Minister George Vella has undergone a cardiac intervention in Beijing after feeling unwell while on a visit to China.

A Department of Information statement said that today Dr Vella was taken to a Beijing hospital after complaining that he was unwell.

The minister is being kept for observation at the hospital and is expected to return to Malta in the coming days.

The DOI said that Dr Vella has spoken with the Prime Minister and his family.

President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil and Speaker Anglu Farrugia all wished Dr Vella a speedy recovery.
