A man holding a Maltese passport is being questioned by the police after witnessing the murder of a 28-year-old man.

The Costa Rica Star reported that the victim has been identified as Roberto Carlos Salazar Arroyo, originally from Colombia. Mr Salazar, who resided in Costa Rica, worked as a security guard at the El Pueblo shopping centre.

On the night of the murder, the 28-year-old had arranged for an orgy involving himself, two women from the Caribbean, a man from Costa Rica and a male expat born in Venezuela, but holding a Maltese passport, the Costa Rica Star reported.

The five of them met at Ruta 32 motel, a love motel with no lobby, at around two in the morning. Guests at the motel must arrive in a vehicle and park inside a garage connected to a spacious bedroom.

According to media reports, the two women and the Maltese expat entered the bedroom to prepare for the sex party, while the man from Costa Rica and the victim were closing the garage door. A Toyota Yaris suddenly entered the motel, headed directly towards the room, stepped out and shot Mr Salazar several time, killing him on the spot. He then ordered everyone into the room, locked the two women in the bathroom, and used a mobile phone to tell the party on the other line: “the job’s done.”

The two women were questioned and released.  The two men were also released after further questioning.
