Firefighters last night battled a huge fire in Magħtab, making use of four fire vehicles using 42,000 litres of water, the Civil Protection Department said on its Facebook page.

Eight fire-fighters and two officers took part in controlling the blaze.

In a statement, Wasteserv said the fire developed at the Għallis non-hazardous waste landfill.

The fire was controlled and put out by the Civil Protection Department in unison with Wasteserv personnel and contractors on site.

Nobody was hurt in this incident and there was no damage to the facilities within the Magħtab Environmental Complex.
