A first for Maltese publishing

Gabriel Caruana is the title of Kite Group's latest publication.  Celebrating this artist with a particular focus on the last five years, this publication presents 60 works of art of one of Malta's most pioneering artists of the last century.

Although Gabriel Caruana is synonymous with the art of ceramics, this publication focuses on his latest works of art.  Including essays by long-time friend Professor Richard England and Charlene Vella, this publication offers a unique insight into the latest evolution of Gabriel Caruana.

"A much loved and valued institution of our island's art scene and a veritable icon of Maltese art, Caruana remains the doyen of Malta's Modern Art Movement. Once again, he has proved himself a unique cartographer in offering an innovative series of works carved and etched in his unique personal alphabet. Thank you Gabriel for yet another of your magical gifts," comments Prof England.  Turning on the works of art that adorn this publication, Professor England carries on by saying that, "Gabriel Caruana's recent work moves the heart after first of all regaling the eyes. Perhaps some advice is useful; best that one treats them like royalty - let them speak first, for they do somehow retain a hint of the regal."

Charlene Vella, the other contributor to the publication, adds that "the graphic works that are being showcased here are among the latest drawings executed by Gabriel Caruana in the last few years. These are very personal works to the artist. He views them very much as a continuation of the work he has produced over many decades, but this time produced at an even quicker pace, and a good dose of experience. This agility with which Gabriel Caruana has executed these works on paper is amply evident in this collection. They were quickly executed not because he has become impatient: rather, it is because of Caruana's dexterity that has only been refined with time. They are the work of a master in his element. And yet, they were produced in a less than ideal circumstance, which, however, Gabriel Caruana has transformed into an opportunity."

This 160-page hardbound publication is a definite must-have for any Melitensia collector and Maltese art lover.  Featuring various photographs and documents from Gabriel Caruana's personal archive and 60 unpublished works of art; this book is definitely one to treasure.

Kite Group have also launched a limited collectors' edition of this publication.  A very limited number of books are available which carry an originally drawn and signed book cover Gabriel Caruana himself.  Each book of this limited edition is in itself a work of art as all covers have been individually drawn and signed.

More information on the books and on the limited edition of this upcoming title is available on www.kitegroup.com.mt
