Sunday, 20 September 2015, 21:10 Last update: about 10 years ago

Inter Milan maintained their 100% record in Serie A with a narrow victory over Chievo thanks to Mauro Icardi's first-half strike.

Argentina international Icardi, 22, slipped the ball under the home keeper after getting on the end of midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia's floated cross.

Chievo went close with a Valter Birsa free-kick and Lucas Castro's header.

Inter's victory was their fourth in as many games and consolidated their place at the top of the table.

Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini returned for a second spell as Inter coach last November and guided the club to eighth place in Serie A but played down title talk after the win.

He said: "It's great to be on top, but what counts is being among the top placed teams in the last month of the season."

Midfielder Paul Pogba scored his first goal of the season for Juventus with a penalty against Genoa

Elsewhere, Italian champions Juventus registered their first win of the season with a 2-0 away victory over 10-man Genoa.

Eugenio Lamanna scored an own goal while Paul Pogba added a penalty as Genoa had Armando Izzo sent off.

Veteran forward Francesco Totti scored the 300th goal of his Romacareer as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Sassuolo while Torino's fine start to season continued with a 2-0 win over Sampdoria thanks to Fabio Quagliarella's brace.

Meanwhile, Atalanta drew 1-1 with Hellas Verona Bologna won 1-0 at home to Frosinone and Fiorentina secured a 1-0 away win over Carpi.
