The Finance Ministry is finalising its preparations for the presentation of the budget for 2016, which will be a historic one on Monday as it will be the first that will be made in the new House of Representatives.

Explaining the budget it a video clip prepared by the Finance Ministry, Minister Edward Scicluna said that the theme of the budget for next year will be “Malta – a strong economy”. The government had chosen this theme because every economic indicator is pointing in this direction.

Economic growth has risen beyond 5 per cent, there is growth in employment, the unemployment rate is going down and the country’s finances are on solid ground, he said.

This brings with it new responsibilities for the government. This is the fourth budget the government will be presenting, he added. We have learnt from our past experiences and the measures that we introduced in the past – and which were successful – give the government the courage to continue moving forward.

Prof. Scicluna said that the government aims to see that the wealth generated is distributed well among the whole population, both socially and geographically.
