Falling stones from bastions lead to temporary closure of one MCP car park entrance

The management of the MCP car park in Floriana has taken immediate safety measures and closed off one of the entrances to the car park (the part near the cruise liners) after stones were falling from the bastions.

The car park is still accessible for motorists entering from near the bus terminus however.

An MCP spokesperson told The Malta Independent that the Police instructed MCP to temporarily close the entrance until the problem is seen to.

This newsroom raised the issue after a number of motorists took to Facebook to complain that the entrance to MCP from the Valletta Waterfront side was closed off by the authorities and has been closed for the past two months.

All MCP users must use the Valletta/Floriana entrance as things stand. The back entrance used to relieve traffic from Porte des Bombes and St Anne Street.

A Transport Ministry spokesperson said that Transport Malta had nothing to do with the closure of the entrance near the Waterfront.
