The government will support Turkey’s bid to join the EU if and when it satisfies the entry requirement, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said tonight.

In a ministerial statement following Sunday’s EU-Turkey summit and COP 21 meeting in Paris, Dr Muscat said the government will follow the previous administrations support of Turkey’s EU membership bid.

Dr Muscat said the main question which should be asked following the EU-Turkey summit is where the three billion that has been pledged to Turkey will come from.

On COP 21, Dr Muscat said the government is committed to the EU’s action plan and targets on climate change.

He highlighted that the COP 21 meeting sent a message that the international community will not let terrorism dictate the agenda.
