As the price of oil plummeted to its lowest level since 2009, Maltese and Gozitans continue to pay among the highest prices for fuel, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

The price of diesel in Malta is the fourth highest among the 28 EU countries, while the price of petrol is the 10th highest in the EU, and way above the average, the PN said.

Luxembourg enjoys the lowest prices for diesel, at 97c per litres, while the Maltese are paying €1.26 for the product.

Bulgaria and Poland enjoy the lowest prices of petrol, at €1.02 per litre, while in Malta consumers are paying €1.35 for one lite of petrol.

While Maltese and Gozitans are paying such high prices, Prime Minister Muscat is pocketing €7,000 a year for leasing out his own personal car to himself as PM.

Shadow Minister Marthese Portelli said that everybody should benefit from the lower prices. Such low prices should be passed on to the consumer, be they workers, self-employed or businessmen.
