Opposition leader Simon Busuttil today asked whether Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg will be suspended by the prime minister while he was being investigated by the Commission Against Corruption, as revealed in a story in The Malta Independent on Sunday.
Dr Busuttil demanded action from the Prime Minister in response to irregularities in the issuing of a permit by MEPA to Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds and the 2017 presidency Ian Borg.
This meant, Dr Busuttil said, that Dr Borg had tried to mislead, such as by using other people's names.
But no action will be taken until the procedures run their course, the PM said.
The Office of the Ombudsman found that Dr Borg used devious methods when applying for a development permit for a property in Rabat. It was found that the development application listed his father and a project manager as the property’s owners instead of Dr Borg himself, who is the actual owner
The Ombudsman report also found that the Development Permit Application Report (DPAR) drawn up by a MEPA case officer contained a “series of omissions and variation in the text.”
The Ombudsman’s report also said that Dr Borg and MEPA’s methods to procure a permit were “devious and deliberate methods”.
Dr Busuttil also urged the Prime Minister this afternoon in parliament to release a press statement at the very least, and to respond the other many issues, such as Labour MP Joe Debono Grech’s threats levelled against Independent MP Marlene Farrugia in Parliament a few weeks ago.
In response, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that the full process and procedure needs to be respected, and that he will take appropriate action once the full process is carried out by The Office of the Ombudsman.
In the meantime he had nothing to add, Dr Muscat said.
