The former Secretary General of the General Workers Union, Tony Zarb, will be bestowed with the Gieh ir-Repubblika tomorrow, Net News is reporting.
The PN’s media house said that, when contacted, Mr Zarb did not deny he would be given the award but said the news still had to be confirmed.
The award ceremony will be held tomorrow, on Republic Day.
Mr Zarb served as chief of the GWU for 16 years. Gieh ir-Repubblika is the country's highest honour bestowed by the government of Malta. In was controversially awarded to dictators like Muammar Ghaddafi, Ben Ali and Kim il-Sung. The former Libyan and Tunisian dictators were stripped of the award 2011.
