Enemalta’s €80 million investment in Montenegro proof of company’s turnaround - PL

Wednesday, 13 January 2016, 11:30 Last update: about 10 years ago

Enemalta has turned from a company riddled with debt to one that is investing in multi-million projects abroad, the Labour Party said today.

In a statement it referred to the news that, along with Shanghai Electric Power, Enemalta will be investing €80 million in a wind farm in Montenegro. The announcement was made earlier this week by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat during a visit to the south eastern European country.

The Pl said the project would be another source of income for Enemalta. It said this was the ultimate proof that the Labour government had lifted Enemalta back on its feet.

The PL recalled how Enemalta had been ridden with debts and was affecting the banks and the economy in general. Former Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, it said, had wanted to sell the company for €1 but the current administration had turned things round completely and turned Enemalta into a profit making entity.

Joseph Muscat’s government, the PL said, had managed to do what the Opposition had claimed to be impossible.
