In light of the mounting complaints being made over the revamped bus service, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi and Transport Malta Chairman James Piscopo held a joint meeting with the director of the Malta Public Transport

The aim of the meeting was to assess the various complaints being put forward by members of the public since the implementation of new routes which took place over the last few months in 2015. The Ministry said it was discussing how to better serve the public after taking into considerations the relevant complaints.

Many complaints were made about extending multiple routes to include St Lukes Hospital in order to better serve Junior College students. The Ministry said that such changes will remain in place.

With regard to route X1, there was agreement that at certain times the route will pass through Mellieha Bypass rather than the centre in order to reduce the length of the trip. Accessibility to San Gwann has also set to be improved.

While the Ministry noted a significant reduction in the congestion of buses at Mater Dei, it was said that studies will be undertaken to ascertain how to improve accessibility to the hospital. More customare care officials are set to be deployed around Mater Dei in order to facilitate correct information to the public.

The Minister noted that a large number of localities reported improved accessibility and an overall improved service, the progress of the new route network is being monitored closely.
