UEFA referee chief upbeat about goal-line technology at Euro 2016

UEFA chief refereeing officer Pierluigi Collina says the European Championship is "a good opportunity" to start using goal-line technology in its competitions.

Collina's comment signals that the UEFA executive committee will approve giving its referees more technical help at a two-day meeting starting Thursday.

Goal-line technology would then be extended after Euro 2016 in France for use in the Champions League and Europa League.

Collina says in an interview published by UEFA that Euro 2016 "is a good opportunity for UEFA to introduce GLT at a big tournament."

At Euro 2012, match officials did not award co-host Ukraine a goal when the ball crossed the line in a 1-0 loss against England.

Collina says UEFA remains committed to using extra assistants beside each goal.
